Functional louvered shutters have angled slats that operate using a wooden tilt rod in the center of the blades. The shutters are usually affixed to the outside of the home using heavy hinges which allow them to swing and cover the window or lay flat against the house. This style is popular among owners of historic homes who wish to preserve the traditional look of their house.
